Overview

The stretch of Atlantic coastline between Essaouira and Agadir is remote and unspoiled, often reachable only by foot. It boasts of fine sandy beaches, rocky headlands, sheer limestone cliffs, fishing villages, and even sand dunes that seem to stretch into the ocean like the Sahara. The changing light brings its own softness to the landscape. This is not the mountains nor the desert, but a unique trek that explores the sea. You can alternate hiking with swimming in the Atlantic and also learn about the Berber way of life, based on the sea’s resources.

Highlight day of the trek, where we walk, without camels, in the wildest part of these few days. Passing through Tafedna, a former Portuguese village now a fishing port, we climb to the plateau covered with argan trees. Here, goats climb the trees to eat the leaves. The coastline is steep and wild. We then descend towards the sea and have a picnic stop on a magnificent beach. Swimming is possible (under your own responsibility). Then we walk along the coast, at the foot of the dunes, to the camp, at Sidi Ahmed Essayeh (well), the most beautiful beach in the region.

We continue along the coast from the cliff, passing impressive limestone ledges. We meet many solitary fishermen. At midday, we arrive in the dunes of Assif n’Boud, a small river leading to the sea; the landscape is exceptional. Camp very close to the beach, next to the waterfalls of Sidi m’Barek, a very pretty site. There is still a good part of the afternoon and evening to enjoy the sea.
