Overview of Hiking Across Ameln Valley Tour
Program: 6 hours of walking / +300m / -300m
Hiking Across The Ameln Valley Tour with Adrar Ecotours takes you through the stunning Ammelne Valley, located near the small town of Tafraoute, 900 meters above sea level, and surrounded by towering mountains that peak at 2500 meters. This valley is a stunning display of contrasts and colors, with steep cliffs composed of vibrant pink rocks and an abundance of flora and fauna. The region’s cultural heritage, architecture, customs, and traditions, as well as its landscapes, make it a natural treasure trove. Within the valley, several charming villages are nestled amidst a vast expanse of lush greenery, providing spectacular views at sunset and sunrise. Fields enclosed by opuntia (prickly pear) hedges, various species of trees and shrubs such as the Argan, Almond, Olive, and Palm trees are also present in the valley, all of which can withstand the extreme heat of the scorching summer season. The Ammelne Valley is a haven for hikers, with a range of options for all skill levels, including some that traverse the Anti Atlas. Visitors can also witness the ancient ritual of the water clock, used to determine the irrigation time for different parts of the oasis.
